Structured Homework Strategy Helps ADHD Kids.
Students with ADHD can struggle with homework completion due to decreased executive functioning. At school, you can keep your classroom organized with assignment calendars to help students.Addressing homework problems is critical, since they are major reasons children with attention deficit disorder (ADHD) fail in school. Almost every parent of a student with ADHD has been on the front lines of homework battles. Keep in mind that homework doesn’t have to be exhaustive to be effective.Use math computer programs for drill and practice. Many students with ADHD have illegible handwriting, or lose track when doing multiple-step problems. Encourage students to keep a card file of specific math skills, concepts, rules, and algorithms, along with specific examples of each on the card for reference.
Experiential and interactive strategies are great for students with limited attention spans and impulsivity. Staying flexible, positive and being open to alternative teaching approaches are also important when teaching students with Attention Deficit Disorder.Opportunities for movement can include: standing up at his desk while doing work. walking around the class in a predefined area. getting out of his seat to stretch. passing out materials. erasing the board. running errands to the school office. going to the water fountain. incorporating movement.
A strategy must meet the triad of academic instruction, behavioral interventions, and classroom accommodations to educate students with ADHD successfully.
